Endorsing Lee
Dear Editor: I am writing to endorse my coworker Steve Lee for city Assembly. I believe the city of Sitka would benefit from a fresh perspective. Steve is respectful and thoughtful. I have no doubt his decisions will be made with careful consideration after listening to everyone who wishes to be heard.
Thank you.

Nation’s Debt
Dear Editor: Heh. What did I predict?
At Thursday’s Democratic candidates debate, not a single word was mentioned about this nation’s $23 trillion sovereign debt, its projected forever trillion dollar annual federal budget deficits, or the looming bankruptcy of Social Security.
“Medicare” was mentioned only in the context of “for all,” and “debt” only within the context of “student.”
As long as the media doesn’t ask the candidates about these issues, the candidates don’t have to talk about them, let alone think about them, let alone propose what to do about them. And the American people don’t have to think about them either.
Maybe if we don’t think about it long enough, it’ll all just go away, eh?
Like I said: America is on a collision course with reality.

Untimely Donations
Dear Editor: HELP! Thoughtless people have struck again. This morning a volunteer walking by the White Elephant Shop found a mess. She struggled to push it under cover out of the rain. Once again, we urge the public to please not leave anything when the store is closed. Also the book area outside is not intended for folks to drop off their books or anything else. White E volunteers put books out there as a courtesy to the public. Folks may stop by anytime and help themselves to these books. We ask that they not be returned.
We are very grateful to the folks who help us by leaving quality donations on the table when the green sign is out and the store is open. Please pass the word, the White E volunteers need your help!
