Peterson Avenue

Dear Editor: The humpies are thick in the stream and the traffic is flowing up and down Peterson Avenue. I’d like to praise the workers from Marble Construction Company for bringing the project in on time and in good shape. Living next to the creek, I had a front row seat from which to admire their skill with heavy machinery and their strong work ethic. Although it was a disruption for my neighbors and me, the folks from Marble did everything they could to minimize the impact on the neighborhood. Congratulations on a job well done.

Mask Mandate

Dear Editor: In spite of the many people who do not believe that the members of the Assembly fairly and honestly represent the opinions expressed to them, I am writing because I love Sitka, Alaska, our country, our rule of law, and our Constitution.

Perhaps as a result of my being a first-generation American it means a great deal to me that our Constitution protects the rights of the individual above the rights of government. My resolute opposition to a mask mandate is based on extensive research and I have a strong background in both research and science. You don’t have to take my word for knowing that masks don’t work to stop the virus from spreading, there are plenty of sound, well-conducted studies that establish the same facts. I’ve included a link below to a short five-minute presentation made to a School Board by a well-qualified physician.

Government is NOT empowered to make personal medical choices for anyone. Each person has both the right and the responsibility to make that choice for him or herself, and parents for children. I can tell you that I’ve talked with lots of people who oppose a mask mandate and who also think talking to the Assembly is useless and that they don’t get listened to. There are ample studies that show masks don’t work against COVID virus, and additional ones that show masks are harmful. I am including a link to just one presentation that puts the information in plain English. On the same page are links to some of the other studies I am referring to. I hope each Assembly member will be diligent in doing their own research before imposing useless or worse harmful conditions on Sitkans – friends and relatives.

Given the extensive evidence AGAINST masks, I can’t help but wonder what would motivate the Assembly to even consider a mandate. Political pressure from a few? Funding aka bribery from the federal government? Would you really sell us out, your fellow citizens, for political popularity or financial gain?

Parenthetically, it might be worth considering the question of why, if masks actually worked, so many of our elected officials who are pushing mask mandates on us are hypocrites who don’t wear them when the cameras are off.

Here’s the link to a short and clear expert presentation regarding mask usage: https://americasfrontlinedoctors.org/frontlinenews/watch-dr-daniel-stock-schools-indiana-school-board-on-mask-mandates-and-covid-protocols/.
