Police Blotter
Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
September 16
A phone was found downtown.
A caller said a campaign sign was on a car where “electioneering” is prohibited, near city hall where voting is taking place through Sept. 30. The vehicle owner said he’d move the sign.
An outboard motor was stolen from Smith Street.
A wallet turned in was found to contain a bud of marijuana, which will be entered into evidence and destroyed. The wallet will be held 30 days.
Police responded to a report of a woman yelling and holding a toddler. Officers arrested a man.
A silver Specialized mountain bike was stolen from Sealing Cove.
A customer spit in an employee’s face following an incident at a downtown business, police were told.
A service dog was shot at with a BB gun, and the injury would be documented by the vet, the owner said.
At 6:10 p.m. a caller reported seeing a person jumping off the bridge, and a skiff in the water possibly helping the jumper. A witness said he saw a seine boat pick up the jumper. The incident is believed to have been a bet between fishermen, police said.
At 6:21 p.m. a caller said a driver was speeding, was belligerent and possibly drunk on Nelson Logging Road. A woman, who was not intoxicated, traded seats with the driver and the two drove away, the caller said.` At 7:53 p.m. a resident said a guest who had been drinking was asked to leave and took off with alcohol in the car. Police couldn’t find the vehicle.
Fireworks were reported at 8:40 p.m. in the Indian River area.
A caller said a bulldog entered a grocery store. The owner met the officer at the shelter to collect the pet.
At 10:05 p.m. a woman said a man she has a protective order against was throwing rocks at her window and was now passed out in the street. The man was gone when police arrived, and the woman said she didn’t see the man but other witnesses believed it was he.
September 17
A fight was reported outside a bar at 1:05 a.m. but it was broken up by the time police arrived.
At 1:23 a.m. a 911 caller said a man was becoming unruly and refusing to get off the floor of a bar, although he hadn’t been drinking. Officers couldn’t reach the family member taking care of him, but he agreed to leave the bar.
At 4:39 a.m. TSA asked police to pick up loose ammo at the airport. Police disposed of it.
At 6:10 a.m. screaming was reported from a Spruce Street apartment. All was quiet when police arrived.
Sitka Police
Michael Pizarro, 51, was arrested Monday on a charge of assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence.
Keyanna McCabe, 19, was cited for failing to have a driver’s license.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 10:50 a.m., 12:34 p.m., 12:44 p.m. and 6:11 p.m.
Coast Guard
A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter this morning medevacked a 71-year-old man with chest pains from Hoonah to Juneau.
