Vote for Himschoot
Dear Editor: I am writing in support of Rebecca Himschoot for the Sitka Assembly. I have known Rebecca for more than 16 years. She is an award-winning teacher. She has the skills and experience to work toward making a better community for everybody. She does not have any axes to grind. She is a listener – and knows how to ask questions to get to the point. She does her homework. She is not a divisive person. Let me add a few more qualities she brings to the table. She is intelligent, honest, organized, level-headed, empathetic, and has sound judgment.
We are voting for Rebecca Himshoot. We hope you will too. Thank you.

BHV Fundraising
Dear Editor: It’s been quite the summer for fundraising at Brave Heart Volunteers and our Fill the Heart campaign is beating strong! We are grateful for every individual and business that is helping us to meet our goal of $35,000 by Dec. 31.
We would like to begin by thanking Ludvig’s Bistro for generously sponsoring two Bowls and Chowder events, which raised over $5,000 for Fill the Heart! Thanks also to everyone who purchased bowls and to our very big-hearted anonymous friend who donated an abundance of bowls for both occasions!
We also had a fantastic turnout for our Gratitude Day event despite the rain. People wore masks, maintained safe distances, and were happy to be outside enjoying the buoys, food, and music. Thank you to all who attended; to our wonderful musicians Jeannie Jay, Lori Whitmill, Vern Culp, Scott Brylinsky and Charles Morgan; to Hank Moore for providing a food cart; to our delicious cookie baker Ruth Culp; and to the businesses and individuals who generously donated door prizes, including Ludvig’s Bistro, Ruth Culp, Chris Gale, Roger and Mary Hames, AC Lakeside, Jerrod Galanin, Michele Friedman and Harry Race.
We would also like to thank the businesses who distributed packets for children to participate in our buoy walk scavenger hunt and coloring page activities: Harry Race Pharmacy and Photo, Abby’s Reflection Apparel and Quiltworks, Galanin & Klein, Raven’s Hook, Russell’s and Old Harbor Books.
Additionally, our Buoy Auction, which runs until Sept. 15, would not have been possible without the generous donation of artistic talents by Mark Bartlett, Norm Campbell, Mary Chambers, Columbus, Kaylee Cunningham, Shanti Friedman, Fiona Ferguson, Jerrod Galanin, Pat Kehoe, Ashia Lane, Helen Mercado, Amelia Mosher, Lucy Pizzuto-Phillips, James Poulson, DJ Robidou, Mark Sixby, Liz Zacher, Allie Spurlock, Jan Steinbright, Iko Sullivan and Adrienne Wilbur. We also want to thank the City of Sitka for allowing us to hang the buoys on downtown posts throughout the summer, and Russell’s store for currently displaying them until auction’s end (details can be found on our website www.braveheartvolunteers.org).
Lastly, a giant heartfelt thanks to the Daily Sitka Sentinel and KCAW Raven Radio for their most kind support and invaluable promotion of our Brave Heart events. We are beyond fortunate to have you in our corner.
