Do Your Part
Dear Editor: Prior generations were asked to sign up for the draft, were called and went to protect their country.
Now there is no draft. Now we are asked to wear masks to protect fellow citizens.
No draft, no polio, no measles, mumps.
Citizens, have we made it too easy for you that you don’t want to do your part?

Mask Mandate
Dear Editor: It was not very long ago, shortly after the Sitka Assembly mandated masks, that I recall a certain city leader declaring loudly and with conviction via a front page headline in the Sitka Sentinel that “The Mask Debate is Over.” I would like to borrow this person’s phrase in declaration that once again “The Mask Mandate is Over.”
Even with the mandate in place, Sitka has achieved 42 positive COVID cases in the last seven days, including 14 in just one day. I ask myself, how is this possible? If the mask works as advertised, how have we achieved these numbers? Something is not adding up.
When I go to the grocery store and see every person other than myself wearing a mask, when we know that all of the schools and city offices and public indoor spaces are requiring a mask, how can it be that the case numbers are growing at such a rapid rate? Just a question.
