Police Blotter
Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
September 20
At 8 a.m. a caller said Valhalla Drive resident had put out garbage and in the night a bear hit the can and spread garbage around. Later, the caller said the owner was cleaning up the mess.
At 8:48 a.m. a man was reported sleeping by Herring Rock. An officer found the man just sitting under a tarp, and advised him to move on.
At 9:19 p.m. a caller said a man seemed to be having a loud conversation with himself on SMC.
At 10:22 p.m. a caller said a woman was very upset after a death in the family and wasn’t answering her phone. Dispatch discovered the woman had left town, moving back home.
A caller said items were stolen from his boat at Sealing Cove.
A caller said a window was broken out of a boat at Eliason and someone may have slept in the boat.
September 21
At 1:09 p.m. a caller said her daughter was to have dropped off a book at the library but never arrived. Police, troopers and NPS searched for her. The girl was found at AT&T, but was to have met her mom at GCI.
A caller said his Model 12 gauge shotgun apparently had fallen out of his car.
A double kayak was found in the water in the 3500 block of HPR. An officer got it out of the water.
A caller said his ex won’t leave his home and is interfering with his business. An officer talked to the woman about options. The two said they’ll move out.
September 22
A black lab with a green collar was found on Cascade Street.
A man said his car might have been stolen because it wasn’t where he remembered leaving it the previous night. Police told him to talk to his wife to make sure she hadn’t moved it. He didn’t call back.
At 4:56 p.m. the harbor department reported a sunken boat on A Float of Sealing Cove Harbor. The owner was notified.
A driver was reported “always” speeding on Wachusetts and Edgecumbe and through stop signs.
At 5:13 p.m. an intoxicated man in a Moller field dugout was curing at people and said he was in pain and feeling like he was going to die. His breathalyzer reading was .377 and he asked to go to the hospital.
A caller reported finding a dead raven on the sidewalk with its guts hanging out, at 335 Harbor Drive. The raven was gone when police checked.
At 6:15 p.m. a caller reported seeing juvenile boys ripping veggies out of the community garden on the SJ campus. They left when the caller approached them.
A red iPhone and Samsung Galaxy 9 were reported missing from a SMC business.
A man was reported sleeping under a tarp at Crescent Harbor. Police found the tarp but no one around.
At 11:37 p.m. a caller saidthree people attacked him while he was sleeping in his yard, in the 2500 block of SMC.
September 23
At 12:13 a.m. a caller said a person with a flashlight crossed the road in the 2400 block of HPR, looked around then crossed back over.
Sitka Police
Randi Castillo, 25, was arrested Friday afternoon on three Sitka warrants, and also charged with violating conditions of release.
Cedar Mayo, 29, was arrested for violating conditions of release Friday for not contacting his pre-trial enforcement division officer.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched three ambulances Friday, three on Saturday and six on Sunday.
In Court
Gayle R. Henry-Cook, 29, of Hoonah, was sentenced to 60 days, with 50 suspended, on a charge of assault in the fourth degree. She is to complete counseling recommendations and will be on probation for a year. She was sentenced to five days on each of two counts of violating conditions of release. Charges of criminal mischief in the fifth degree and unlawful contact were dismissed.
