    The following calls were received by police by 8 a.m. today:
September 27
    At 9:25 a.m. a caller said items had been stolen from his vehicle on Katlian Street within the last hour.
    At 11:24 a.m.  a 911 caller reported a possibly impaired driver on Alice Loop Road. The driver admitted to being distracted and having some medical issues that might affect his ability to operate a vehicle. Officers advised him of his options.
    At 2 p.m. a caller said a small SUV has been parked in the right-of-way on Toivo Circle since Sunday. An officer advised the caller the vehicle is off the roadway and not blocking the way, but it should not be parked there for that long. A message was left at the registered owner’s residence.
    At 2:11 p.m. a 911 caller said a highly intoxicated woman was having a hard time walking, at Lake and Lincoln streets. An officer saw a woman matching the description walk into a downtown residence.
    At 2:17 p.m. a caller reported a bear sow and cub were knocking over trash cans in the 3200 block of HPR. Officers found that the trash cans had been knocked over the previous evening, and no bears were around.
    A caller said a downstairs neighbor apparently is hitting her 4-year-old daughter repeatedly. An officer contacted the mother and child and although he saw no signs of abuse will notify OCS, due to the possible frequency of the hitting.
    At 4:22 p.m. a caller said a small border collie-type dog was in his shed, and although he didn’t have a vehicle to take the dog to the shelter he would ask around the neighborhood.
    At 5 p.m.a caller said a bear was by the National Park Service bridge on Metlakatla. An officer responded and a note was left for NPS.
    A caller asked for a welfare check on a friend who was sending suicidal text messages. An officer talked to the friend, who was then brought in for 72-hour hold. OCS took custody of the children.
    At 9:44 p.m. a caller reported what sounded like two men in the road near SMC, drinking and making a lot of noise. An officer found a man talking on his phone on his back porch while drinking a beer. He admitted to the officer that he was being a bit loud and agreed to quiet down.
    At 9:56 p.m. Craig Police Department asked for assistance with a case in which the victim had been brought to Sitka.
    At 10:16 p.m. an anonymous caller reported a loud party on Merrill Street with a large bonfire that was producing sparks. Officer contacted the residents, who agreed to quiet down for the night. Officers also noted that the bonfire was  under control.
    September 28
    At 6:17 p.m. DOT asked that a vehicle parked at the airport be impounded for being in violation of FAA rules and regulations.

Emergency Calls
    Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 8:52 p.m. Thursday and 12:25 a.m. and 1 a.m. today.
    At 9:15 p.m. Thursday an engine was sent to Sitka Sound Seafoods in response to burned popcorn.


CORRECTION
    In Thursday’s In Court section it was incorrectly reported that Joshua Michael Roman, 25, had been released. He has NOT been released and is in Sitka jail, with a preliminary hearing scheduled Oct. 5.
