Police Blotter
Sitka Police Department received the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.
September 28
At 6:26 a.m. a caller reported the theft of a saw and money from his garage on Osprey Street.
At 10:49 a.m. contact was made with a citizen on Baranof Streeet.
At 12:50 p.m. an animal call came in from UAS.
An animal problem was reported in the 300 block of Wortman Loop at 3:09 p.m.
At 4:24 p.m. the police department received a request for help from an agency.
September 29
At 2:33 a.m. a bear was reported on Sirstad Street.
A caller at Granite Creek Road and HPR reported a suspicious person.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received two ambulance calls, and one fire call, at 12:55 a.m. today, when smoke was reported at a restaurant. A ladder truck was dispatched but the smoke cleared.
In Court
Donald Lewis Jordan, 29, on a charge of reckless driving was sentenced to 30 days, suspended, and fined $1,000, with $500 suspended. He will be on probation for a year.
The following were ordered to appear a hearing at 11 a.m. Oct. 14 to explain why they didn’t appear for jury service for the September and October term: Cornelia Heubscher, Joshua Opatchen, Edward Drake, Heather Lockwood, Mary Ann Nells, Kasiana Pittser, and Michael White.
