Sitka Fair Response
Dear Editor: I appreciated the critique from Rebecca Hamm of Brewster, Wash., about areas to help improve the Sitka “state” Fair.
At this time we have a list of 32 suggestions to consider for improving the 3rd Annual Sitka “state” Fair and will happily add the ideas of trying to find commercial vendors and having music outside. Indeed we intend to have a Best of Fair category for each age group and offer some type of cash award or prizes for those with blue ribbons.
I do take exception however and believe the highlights of the fair included the 17-pound green cabbage, the pie-eating contest, the music, the folk dancing, the food, the photography, and the many fine entries, carrots to cakes and crafts to cupcakes that Sitkans took the time and trouble to enter, but then I may be a bit subjective and partisan.
Thank you, Ms Brewster, and all the Sitkans who have added suggestions for improvement, we value your input.
