Sitka Police Department received the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.
September 2
A fraud case is under investigation.
At 3:10 p.m. a man was reported to have locked himself in a restroom at ANB Harbor and was smoking pot. He was gone when officers arrived.
A case of harassment is under investigation.
At 10:51 p.m. a fight was reported in the 2800 block of HPR. Police found no evidence of a crime.
At 11:42 p.m. a juvenile at Eagle Beach was advised of curfew hours and advised to go home.
At 11:45 p.m. a dog was reported running at large in the 1800 block of HPR. The owner picked it up.
At 11:51 p.m. two individuals were reported fighting in the 100 block of Lincoln Street. Officers found it was mutual combat and advised the two to leave.
September 3
At 12:09 a.m. a person at a downtown hotel reported a friend was missing. Officers found the friend, who returned to the hotel.
A person reported lying in the road in the 100 block of Jeff Davis Street at 12:12 a.m. was taken to the hospital.
At 2 a.m. an assault was reported in the 100 block of Lincoln Street, and one person was taken to the hospital. The case is under investigation.
At 7:12 a.m. a welfare check was requested on a man. Police located the man and he was taken to the hospital.
At 12:21 p.m. a caller reported hearing a transformer blow at Shuler Drive and HPR. The city utility office was notified.
At 12:51 p.m. two juveniles were reported to have shoplifted in a store in the 100 block of Lincoln Street. They were trespassed, but no charges were filed.
An iPhone in a green case found downtown was turned in.
A man and woman were reported fighting on Baranof Street. Police found nothing criminal had occurred.
At 8:15 p.m. a man was reported shouting and cursing near Yaw Drive and Indian River Road. Officers gave him a disorderly conduct warning.
At 10:51 p.m. a dog was reported to have been barking for several hours in the 700 block of Monastery Street. The owner took it inside.
A woman reported a scam.
September 4
At 12:22 a.m. groups were reported being loud in the 200 block of Katlian Street. The noise was found to be coming from a bar.
A civil dispute off the 800 block of HPR was found to be a disagreement between partners with nothing criminal occurring.
At 9:25 a.m. a juvenile was reported to have broken a window on DeGroff Street. It was found to be a civil matter, and the parents agreed to pay for the broken window.
A woman reported headphones had been stolen from her vehicle in the last six weeks.
At 4:13 p.m. a yellow Lab without a collar was reported running at large in the 3100 block of HPR.
At 4:47 p.m. a woman said two dogs had attacked her dog, on Hirst Street.
At 7:54 p.m. a man riding a bike was reported to be accompanied by a dog that wasn’t on a leash. Police advised the man of leash laws.
At 8:26 p.m. two drivers were reported having an issue at HPR and Harbor Mountain Road. Police were unable to locate one of the parties.
At 10:37 p.m. traffic cones were reported to have been moved at Baranof Street and SMC. Officers put them back in place.
September 5
At 2:05 a.m. a large group was reported being loud at Totem Square. Officers advised the group to be quieter.
At 3:29 a.m. two people were reported fighting on the sidewalk in the 300 block of Seward Street. Officers responded.
At 3:29 a.m. a business in the 300 block of Katlian said two men were causing a problem. The two left before officers arrived.
At 7:20 a.m. a resident on Lance Drive reported finding an unknown man asleep on the couch. An officer escorted the man home.
At 9:48 a.m. a resident in the 3000 block of SMC reported seeing a red flare on the water, and later seeing two boats towing one boat to the beach.
At 10:53 a.m. two Labs were reported running at large near the trooper academy. Their owners later picked them up.
A caller talked to an officer about a stalking.
A family fight was reported. Officers found nothing criminal had occurred.
September 6
At 12:35 a.m. a dog was reported running at large in the 1800 block of HPR. It was gone when police arrived.
Sitka Police
Zachary Loewen, 32, was arrested Saturday on a warrant for a charge of theft in the fourth degree.
Kendra Skultka, 40, was arrested Sunday on a disorderly conduct charge.
Chatham Hansen, 22, was charged Monday with disorderly conduct and criminal mischief in the third degree.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received seven ambulance calls and one false fire alarm Friday, five ambulance calls Saturday, one on Sunday and three on Monday.
Truck Crashes
On POW Road
Troopers are investigating a Sept. 2 logging truck crash near 16-mile Boundary Road on Prince of Wales Island.
The driver reported he swerved to avoid a deer, causing the loaded truck to overturn and spilling the multiple logs across both lanes of travel. He was taken to the hospital for injuries sustained.
Wildlife Troopers
Christian Buschmann, 34, of Petersburg, was fined $340 for reportedly operating a salmon purse seine vessel not currently licensed through the Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission, and not carrying evidence of permanent residency, wildlife troopers said. Troopers contacted Buschmann Sept. 2 in Deep Inlet.
Ryan Andrews, 43, of Sitka, was cited for retaining three king salmon less than 28 inches in length, which troopers observed during a commercial troll offload to a local processor August 23.
Daniel Bailey, 65, of Washington State, was fined $120 for reportedly shrimp pot fishing in the closed waters of Hoonah Sound on August 21, troopers said.
Brett Cottrell, 34, and Quintin Garcia, 64, both of Utah, were fined $140 each for reportedly taking one yelloweye rockfish each during a closed period, on August 20.
Coast Guard
A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter diverted from a training flight Monday afternoon to help a boat in distress in the Auke Bay area near Juneau.
When the helicopter arrived, a small boat from Station Juneau was there, and no further help was needed, the Coast Guard said, and the helicopter was back in Sitka by 2:12 p.m.
