Yes on Proposition 2
Dear Editor: What is the best investment you can make in Sitka’s future? Voting yes on prop 2: the Sitka Community Shipyard.
The shipyard will be built at Sitka’s Gary Paxton Industrial Park. Paraphrased, the mission of the industrial park is to maximize economic benefit to the community by creating meaningful jobs that advance community plans and policies.
Almost 10 years ago, the GPIP board prioritized on-site construction of a community shipyard. Until now, the city has lacked the resources to build the shipyard. Sitka now has the one-time opportunity to reinvest proceeds from sale of the hospital in the shipyard – Sitka’s essential working waterfront infrastructure – that will benefit every business, resident, and visitor to this community.
The shipyard will generate millions of dollars in economic activity for Sitka, provide year-round, high paying jobs, and keep our maritime tradition alive. The shipyard will draw new business to Sitka and create new vocational opportunities for Sitka’s youths. The Sitka Community Shipyard IS Sitka’s permanent fund.
Let’s make it happen.

Sitka Visit
Dear Editor: Thanks to Mary at Mean Queen, our eight-day stay in Sitka was everything we hoped it would be. Mary advised us, befriended us, and set us up with the wonderful, new Sea Piper tours to view puffins and bears.
Mary, you should be featured on travelsitka.com. Oh, and Happy Birthday!
With admiration and gratitude from
Abby, Chuck, Heidi and Mike of Wisconsin
