Service Set Friday, Oct. 3 For Robert H. Kinville Sr.

Posted

Services for Robert Henry Kinville Sr. are scheduled 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, October 3, at the ANB Founders Hall.

Robert died September 19 in Sitka, at the age of 84.

He was born May 13, 1941, in Portland, Oregon, the son of Harry and Marjorie (Swarn) Kinville. He graduated from David Douglas High School in Portland, and joined the U.S. Coast Guard. That job took him to Juneau, and it was there he married Nora Lee Willis, on Feb. 9, 1963.

The couple moved shortly afterward to Sitka, where he went to work at Alaska Pulp Co. That was just one of the jobs he held over the years. He was skipper of the M/V Chugach, a historic U.S. Forest Service ranger boat; was a commercial fisherman; operated a tugboat; drove a taxi; and was a Daily Sitka Sentinel route carrier and friend.

When he wasn't at work, Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, abalone diving, boats and, especially, his family. He invested himself in family, and his love and mentoring will live on through generations, his family wrote.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nora; daughter, Geraldine Mary ‘‘Raven’’ Kinville; and a brother, Richard.

He is survived by his sons, Robert H. Kinville Jr. and Michael C. Kinville, both of Juneau; his brother Paul Kinville of Portland; his granddaughter Tamara Kinville, great-granddaughter Allison Ball and great-grandson Randall Kinville, all of Sitka; great-granddaughter Jayme Detemple of Silver Hill, Alabama; 10 grandchildren in Juneau; four great-grandchildren in Juneau and Anchorage; and three great-great-grandchildren in Sitka and Alabama.
