Karina Lozano Sibayan
Karina Lozano Sibayan, an Anchorage resident and a Sitka High graduate, died Aug. 23 in Fairbanks. She was 21.
She was born May 18, 1999, in the Philippines, and her family came to Sitka in July 2010 when she was 11.
Karina graduated from Sitka High in May 2018. She was well-known for playing both volleyball and basketball, and for being the life of the party.
Karina had an adventurous soul. She loved to travel and explore, whether it be hiking on top of mountains, jumping in lakes, or soaking up sun on the beach. Whenever Karina wasn’t exploring, she loved to eat, dance, and spend time with her loved ones.
Karina had one of the biggest hearts. She always gave more than she received, and was always quick to forgive. Wherever Karina went, she left her mark by making friends with just about everyone she met. She had one of the most contagious laughs and the cutest dimples.
Another thing that Karina was well-known for was being a wonderful babysitter for many children. Karina loved taking the kids to the playground and running around with them. Many children to this day ask about her and tell their parents that she was their best friend.
Karina was a devoted daughter, sister, dog-mom, cousin, niece, granddaughter, and friend. She will be remembered and missed by many for the love she has left in all of our hearts.
Karina is survived by her father, Fred Sibayan, and mother, Lisa Lozano; her brother, Kerwin, and sister Kaylen Lozano; her grandmother, Mercedes Sibayan, and numerous relatives of both Sitka and the Philippines.
A memorial service is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2020, at St. Gregory Catholic Church. Father Morino Cho, KMS will officiate.
“I know heaven is a beautiful place because they’ve got you.”
