David Warren “Deets” Dalton

Services for David Warren “Deets” Dalton will be held Saturday, Nov. 27, at the Community Hall in Kake.

David died October 18 in Kake, at the age of 55.

He was born Jan. 18, 1966, in Petersburg, the son of Eward and Edna (Mason) Dalton. They died when he was very young, and he became a member of the Wally and Joyce James family of Kake.

He graduated from Kake High School in 1985, and lived in Sitka off and on between 2009 and 2012.

He was a logger, a fisherman, and a City of Kake laborer.

“David was one of the kindest men you’d ever meet,” a family member said. “He always had a smile.”

He was an artist, and created beautiful pieces of art in his last year – beadwork, painting, formline, driftwood and feathers. “He kept himself pretty busy,” his family said.

He was approaching his first full year of sobriety, and he always had a Bible with him when he traveled.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Edna Dalton; brothers Ross, Gerald, Maxfield, Michael and Edward Dalton Jr.; sister Myrna Dalton Lambert; and (mom)Joyce James.

He is survived by Bess Skeek of Kake; his son Michael Dalton of Kake; (dad) Wally James of Kake, brother Mitchell James of Seattle; his sisters Shawna Akins of Florida and Sarah (Michael) Smith of Sitka; and was “Uncle Beets” to numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Dan Willis, Eugene Cavanaugh, Duane Brown, John Willis Jr., Michael Martin and Michael Nannauck.

Cards may be sent to Bess Skeek, P.O. Box 129, Kake, AK 99830.
