Services for Richard "Ricky" Lee Sam Jr. will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at the Sheet'ka Kwaan Naa Kahidi community house, 200 Katlian Street.
Those who attend are welcome to bring a dish to share.
Ricky was born July 16, 1981, in Sitka, the son of Anna Marie Hill and Richard Sam Sr. He lived in Sitka until 2022, when he moved to Ketchikan. He died there on May 12.
Ricky attended Sitka schools, graduating from Pacific High School in 2001. During high school he worked at Yaba, a program training youths in building homes. As an adult, he worked in fish plants, for the National Park Service, on construction jobs, and for Uncle's Painting.
He loved fishing, hunting and camping, softball and basketball both as a player and as a fan, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by daughters Sarah Sam of Ketchikan and Kaetlyn Skultka of Sitka; his dad, Steve Edenshaw of Sitka; sisters Evelyn Edenshaw of Sitka and Connie Edenshaw of Washington; grandkids Azlynn, Dexter, Alizah and Harley; nephews Nikolas Calhoun, Caleb Calhoun, and Benjamin Handerson; and niece Brooklyn Thompson.
Pallbearers will be Steve Edenshaw, John Handerson, Daniel Smith and Harry Lysons; and honorary pallbearers are John Brevick and Jeremy Brady.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Sitka Little League.
