Dear Editor: On behalf of the Mt. Edgecumbe High School students, staff, and administration, I would like to shout out a great big “Thank You!!” to Ben Hamilton, Emmy-Award winning filmmaker. Ben spent more than a decade filming, editing, producing, and self-financing ‘‘Sitka’s Hidden Wonders,’’ which premiered and played exclusively this summer at the Coliseum Theatre.
Ben graciously offered to host two showings of ‘‘Sitka’s Hidden Wonders’’ – his awe-inspiring documentary film –for the entire MEHS student body as a part of Edgecamp, our welcome (back) to students from over 100 Alaska communities.
In addition to connecting with students before and after the film at the theater, Ben came to MEHS and invested hours in my classroom with my digital storytellers and video journalists who produce the ‘‘Cutting Edge News.’’ I am truly humbled by Ben’s gifts as a cinematographer and even more appreciative of his willingness to share his time and talents with Alaska’s next generation.
Thanks, again, Ben and best from MEHS!
P.S.: If you want to see Ben working with my MEHS filmmakers, I invite you to check out Episodes 1 & 2 of the ‘‘Cutting Edge News’’ coming soon to the MEHS website at mehs.us
Stay tuned, and Go Braves!
