Photo caption: A new 100-foot radio tower stands next to the water tower on Japonski Island. A new radio signal repeater on the tower went on line this week, enabling Sitka Fire Department to communicate everywhere in town, including areas previously considered “dead spots.” ... The $226,000 tower has been in the works for three years.
