Dear Editor: Last October the Sitka Fire Department played host to the Alaska State Fire Conference. This conference was a huge success, not just for the department, but for the whole community. Sitka is truly a special place for conferences with easy access from Harrigan Centennial Hall to lodging and eateries, all within a short walk. Those conveniences are hard to find in any other venue in the state.
While this was a very large lift for the department members in planning, coordination, and implementation, it would not have been possible without the support of this spectacular community. Lots of businesses donated to this conference, and I need to thank them for helping to make it a success.
Thank you to A/C Lakeside, the Hames Corporation, Arrowhead Transfer, Sitka Bottling Company, Mean Queen, Sitka Tours, Harry Race Pharmacy and Photo, White’s Custom Services, Spenard Builders Supply, Ace Hardware Store, U.S. Coast Guard Chief’s Mess, and others that I may have forgotten.
