Dear Editor: I am an advocate with the EDC (Eating Disorders Coalition for Research, Policy and Action and AKEDA (Alaska Eating Disorder Association.) I write today to express my sincere gratitude to Sen. Murkowski for her support in including funding and language for eating disorders in the FY 2026 Health and Human Services Appropriations.
Sen. Murkowski’s effort was instrumental to allocate resources to expand and continue research, to identify early detection and treatment, to increase public awareness and to define eating disorders as eligible for research under a Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program.
My family knows how critical it is to invest in prevention, early intervention, and access to science based treatment. Including this funding and language sends a powerful message that eating disorders deserve attention and resources at the federal level.
