Dear Editor: On Sunday, Aug. 31, the MEHS senior class continued the cherished tradition of climbing Mt. Edgecumbe. This event would not have been possible without the generous support of Sitka’s tourism businesses and the dedicated volunteers from the community.
Allen Marine has been a proud supporter of this annual event for over a decade. This year, they offered an additional discount to help make the event possible, despite our tighter budget. A special thank you to Allen Marine for sponsoring this activity, and to Captains Jared and Mo, along with their crews, for providing safe and efficient transportation to and from Fred’s Creek. You genuinely have the pick-up and drop-off process down to a science!
Alaska Coach Tours also made a significant contribution by donating bus transportation between the dorms and Crescent Harbor. We’re grateful to Joe Tanner and his drivers for accommodating every request and ensuring a smooth experience for everyone.
In addition, NANA Regional Corporation, the new MEHS food and dormitory contractor, generously provided sack lunches and kept the cafeteria open after hours to accommodate our students. A big thank you to David Rivera and the entire NANA team for making sure our students were well-fed and ready for the climb!
With great appreciation,
Colton Holmes, Lynn Bastoky, Margo Livermore and Matt Hunter
