Dear Editor: Hello to Sitka from a longtime former Sitkan and 1988 SHS graduate. I'm the author of ‘‘The Fairhaven Novels,’’ an uplifting contemporary fiction series about family, friendship, and the meaning of home. The books are based out of Fairhaven, a fictional town on the coast of Maine that was inspired by Sitka.
You might even recognize in a character or two some intentional similarities with departed longtime Sitkans who made it a special place, with more to come in future books.
‘‘Welcome to Fairhaven’’ is book one in the series, followed by Downhome. They are available on Amazon.com. The third installment, ‘‘Back to Alaska,’’ will feature Sitka itself and some of its history.
