UAE cricketer Asif Khan banned for 15 months after testing positive for banned substance

ISLAMABAD (AP) — The International Cricket Council has banned Asif Khan of United Arab Emirates for 15 months after the batter tested positive for a banned substance.

The ICC said in a statement on Thursday that Khan, 36, admitted the violation of its anti-doping code and accepted the ban for using a banned substance — “a metabolite of mesterolone” — in an out-of-competition test conducted in September 2025.

The ban was backdated from Sept. 8, 2025 and runs to Dec. 7, 2026. The ICC said he can return to training with a team on Oct. 8.

Asif, who played for Pakistan as under-19 cricketer, represented UAE in 38 ODIs and 56 T20s since making his debut for the gulf country in 2022.

However, his last three T20 records against India, Oman and Pakistan in the T20 Asia Cup 2025 will be removed because he played those games after Sept. 8, 2025.
