Weather Worn

Posted

Dear Editor: Sitka is truly an amazing town! But, I am suffering from a severe case of Weather Weariness, storm after storm after storm. Sitka residents, and services and sanity seem to survive just anyway. Hang in there, friends. I am, I think. Maybe.

What gives me hope seems to come from a multitude of sources: KCAW, the Daily Sitka Sentinel, the buses taking kids to school, the lunch menus, the RIDE, the exercise classes available, the sound of different languages, the drum and singing of the local Tlingit language, the courage of the Assembly members, the regular garbage pick up, the crazy crows swarming, the ravens calling across town, and the parades, continuity of special programs like the Grind, and new programs that keep surprising me – like naming the baby octopus, the adult book competition, the many, many fundraisers, and a theme of compassion for our shared humanity.

But not all is hunky dory. I am really, really weather worn. Hang in there, friends. I think I see a patch of blue.

Nancy Yaw Davis, Sitka
