Wolf for Assembly

Posted

Dear Editor: I want to share a story about Jonathan Wolf that most people don’t know, because he’d never tell it himself. I want to be clear that I’m sharing this as a friend and Sitkan and not as a political statement from ANB.

Last July, I was coming back from Redoubt with some friends in their boat when the battery went out, and  couldn’t get motor restarted. It got dark fast. We were adrift out there, holding onto the mooring line of a derelict boat to keep from drifting out to sea. I called the Coast Guard. They stayed in touch, but since everyone was okay and there was no immediate danger, they said they’d come at first light.

It was pitch black and cold, and we didn’t know how long we could hang on. The tide and wind were changing. Everyone on board called anyone they thought would answer. I called Jonathan, and when he found out no one was coming til morning, he just said, “I’ll come get you now.”

I’ll never forget holding my phone screen up in the air on a moonless night, hoping he would see us. By midnight, he had come in his own boat, found us, got the motor going, and guided us back to town safe.

That’s who Jonathan Wolf is. He’s kind, steady, respectful, and dependable. He’s hardworking and never shy to lend a hand. He shows up when it matters, even when no one’s watching. Sitka needs that kind of leadership.

I hope you’ll vote for Jonathan Wolf tomorrow, October 7.
