Sitka Majors to Face Juneau in Championship
By Sentinel Staff
The Sitka Majors are two wins away from a state Little League tournament berth after reaching the Championship Round of District 2 play at Moller field.
Sitka went 3-1 in the round-robin bracket, which ended Sunday. That puts them in a best-of-three bracket with Juneau starting tonight at 6 p.m.
After beating Ketchikan 5-4 on Thursday, Sitka blew out Prince of Wales and Petersburg 12-1 and 11-0 in their Friday and Saturday games.

Juneau defeated Sitka 17-4 in the final game of group play. Both teams had clinched a spot in the championship round, rendering the outcome of Sunday’s game meaningless. The Juneau Majors have breezed through the tournament thus far. They opened with a 10-0 win over Ketchikan and then beat Petersburg and Prince of Wales by double digits.
The winner of the District 2 tournament will move on to the state championship gave against Dimond, which will be played in Sitka starting Friday.
Juniors
The Sitka Juniors team finished second in the District 2 tournament in Juneau Saturday, after losing to Ketchikan 13-3.
Ketchikan led 4-2 heading into the fifth inning, where they scored 9 runs. Sitka got one run back in the bottom of the inning, when Reese Greenough scored on a single by Morgan Simic. Simic also tripled and scored for Sitka’s first run. The other run was scored by Sid Fleming on a hit by Dom Baciocco.
Ketchikan’s win means they’ll represent District 2 in the state tourney in Anchorage against the Polar Little League from Anchorage.
