Ray Nielsen, leader of Sitka’s Cross Mountain Dancers, said the group first came together in 1966 just prior to Alaska’s Centennial celebration. .... The initial leaders for the group were Charlie Joseph and Carlie Dick. In 1972 dancers were invited to the Kake Potlatch. Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Dick couldn’t attend and Ray had to assume the leadership, which he has held since.
