Sitka police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
September 11
At 2:08 a.m. a caller reported hearing strange noises in the 400 block of Lake Street. It was determined the noise was caused by the wind.
A bear was reported in the bushes in the Indian River subdivision at 7:17 a.m. Police were unable to locate it.
At 8 a.m. an intoxicated man was reported wandering the area near Sitka Sound Science Center apparently breaking into vehicles. Police took him to a lodge where he and relatives were staying.
A caller reported damage done to gates on Granite Creek Road. Police determined the damage was accidental and minimal.
A husky was reported running at large in the 3600 block of HPR at 9:57 a.m. The animal control officer cited the owner.
At 11:32 a.m. a dog was reported running at large in the Monastery Street-Verstovia Avenue area. The ACO was unable to locate it.
A report of a sex offense at a school is under investigated.
A bear was reported in the Pherson and Austin streets area, where it had gone near a residence multiple times.
At 2:37 p.m. a driver was reported to have struck then run over the stop sign at Jeff Davis and SMC. The driver was cited and DOT was notified of the damage.
A teen reported being hit in the face by another teen on a bus. The parents have not decided on whether to press charges.
A driver said another vehicle had backed into her vehicle, breaking a taillight, in a parking lot in the 700 block of HPR.
A bear cub was reported in the area of Sitka High at 11:10 p.m. Police were unable to locate it.
September 12
A man and a woman were reported arguing near a company truck they weren’t authorized to have. The company was undecided on whether to pursue a trespassing complaint.
At 3:55a.m. a bike was reported in the road at Park and Biorka streets. An apparently intoxicated man was nearby but was deemed able to care for himself.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department had one ambulance call Monday and one false alarm, at Sandy Beach.

Glen Jones, 33, was charged Monday with theft in the second degree.
Ashley Grearson, 38, was charged Monday with endangering the welfare of a child in the second degree, and misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree.

The Assembly decided Tuesday against municipal participation in the U.S. Bicentennial Year commemorative project because of various objections to the project proposed: construction of a Russian tea house pavilion on the Centennial Building parking lot. The estimated local share of the project would be $37,000.
