HARVEST TIME – Xóots Elementary School first-grader Diego Gomez holds a Tlingit potato in the Pacific High School garden Tuesday. The children planted the potatoes last year when they were kindergartners. The planting and harvesting is held in partnership with the PHS Gardening Program and Sitka Tribe of Alaska. STA’s David Kanosh, in background at left, told about the history of the potato in the region, which dates back at least 200 years. (Sentinel Photo by James Poulson)
