ALASKA DAY – The Ninth Army band from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson follows a Sitka Police cruiser as they  lead the Alaska Day parade Friday on Lincoln Street. Hundreds turned out for the parade and the 1867 transfer ceremony re-enactment on Castle Hill that followed. Alaska Day events included a period costume ball on Thursday, a military service at Sitka National Cemetery, the Lutheran pie sale and the Pioneer Home variety show and tea among other events.  Photos from the weekend  are printed on page 6.
