ALASKA DAY – The Ninth Army band from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson follows a Sitka Police cruiser as they lead the Alaska Day parade Friday on Lincoln Street. Hundreds turned out for the parade and the 1867 transfer ceremony re-enactment on Castle Hill that followed. Alaska Day events included a period costume ball on Thursday, a military service at Sitka National Cemetery, the Lutheran pie sale and the Pioneer Home variety show and tea among other events. Photos from the weekend are printed on page 6. (Sentinel Photo by James Poulson)
