Homeless Shelter

Posted

Dear Editor: It's cozy time in Sitka, time to snuggle under a blanket on your couch and read a good book or stream a new series. This is not the plan for many Sitkans who have no place to stay warm and dry as the temperatures drop and wet weather becomes the norm.

Shelter Sitka is the Sitka Homeless Coalition's winter fundraiser. Our goal is $100K to help fund our overnight winter shelter and other year-round lifesaving programs.

The winter shelter at the United Methodist Church serves 20-25 individuals who usually stay multiple nights per season from early December to the end of March. This service costs money for staff, rent and supplies.

Twelve months of the year we also offer laundry and showers two days a week, food security programs, case management to assist folks to obtain stable and sustainable housing, and our permanent supportive housing community, Hítx’i Sáani. All of these programs together reach around 100 clients here in Sitka. These are your neighbors, our neighbors, our friends.

Please donate at: https://sheltersitka.org/general-donations

You can also mail donations to P.O. Box 1112, Sitka.

Thanks for your ongoing support.
