Natural Beauty
Dear Editor: Today my husband and I along with our daughter and her husband spent a few short hours in Sitka. We went on the Russian Heritage tour and our daughter and her husband did a Sea Otter Quest and Fortress of the Bear.
We thoroughly enjoyed your city and wished we could have stayed longer as we did not get a chance to see and explore enough.
Our driver/guide Bobbi Daniels was awesome. She was very knowledgeable and funny and she made us feel like friends as she shared stories about her family and the town vet, amongst others. the Sheldon Jackson Museum was fantastic, as were the New Archangel Dancer – so colorful
The fact that we could get free wi-fi access was much appreciated. It is very expensive onboard the ship. St. Michael’s Cathedral was also very interesting, although it would be nice to be told what exactly our $5 entry fee was being used to fund, as it is a church with an active congregation and not a museum.
Our daughter and her husband thoroughly enjoyed the bear sanctuary and then Sea Otter and Whale Quest (which, by the way, we went on a similar tour in Juneau run by the same outfit, Allen Marine, and they said the Sitka tour was FAR superior in all respects.)
Your city is picturesque and we will be recommending that Holland America spends more time there. All the guests we spoke to agreed and shared similar sentiments. A couple from Seattle plan to fly back for a holiday, in fact.
So congratulations on what you are doing. We are Jamaicans from Kingston, and do not like to go to Montego Bay and Ocho Rios as we think they are ‘‘tourist traps,’’ and not what the ‘‘real’’ Jamaica is like.
Thank you for sharing your history and your culture and continue to preserve the natural beauty of your city. As we say in Jamaica, ‘‘Take care and walk good.’’ Blessings
