Nancy K. Wladyka Dies; Was a 35-Year Sitkan

Posted

On Wednesday, September  24, Nancy Kathleen Wladyka, 70, passed away in the arms of her family at their Sitka home, and into the loving arms of our Savior, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Nancy was born Feb. 7, 1955, in Oceanside, New York, to Kathleen and William Ahern, a Korean War veteran. Kathleen was a very loving and dedicated mother who raised seven children. Nancy, being the oldest, took to being a caring and protective sibling to her five sisters and brother as they grew up together in Island Park, New York.

She moved to Alaska with her husband, Curt, in 1975, working in a logging camp’s cookhouse before eventually finding their way to Sitka in 1990. Nancy went on to raise two sons, homeschooling them and being a homemaker to her family.

Nancy had an enormous and giving heart, and was known to always bring comfort to those she spoke with, including strangers. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and gardening. She had a great love and devotion to children, teaching them about the Bible and to walk in the ways of the Lord. She had a special relationship with the Lord, keeping Him close to her heart for all of her days.

Nancy leaves behind her husband of 52 years, Curt Wladyka, of Sitka; their son Jordan (and his wife, Carli of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and their son Jamie (and his wife, Halley) of Yelm, Washington.

Services were held October 6 at Coral Ridge Funeral Home and Cemetery in Cape Coral, Florida,  where she was laid to rest beside her mother.
