No Vote to Eric Hafner

Posted

Dear Editor: With all this talk about election shenanigans a critical detail is being left out of the conversation: the race for U.S. House of Representatives. I want to warn Alaskan voters about the real spoiler candidate on our ballot – Eric Hafner running for U.S. House of Representatives.

Hafner is listed as a Democrat, and his name is at the top of the choices for U.S. Representative on our ballot form in House District 2. Don’t be fooled! Eric Hafner has no ties to Alaska and has never been here. He holds a South Dakota address and a N.Y. phone number where he is in federal prison until 2036 for pleading guilty to threatening to kill or injure elected officials, police, judges and their families.

A dark money MAGA SuperPAC financed his campaign, and they are sending out bogus text messages this week purporting to be from Democrats aiming to boost incumbent Nick Begich and damage Bill Hill, as new polling shows the race between Begich and Hill is a toss-up. He is a spoiler!

I am a Democrat and I voted for Bill Hill. Bill is running to put Alaskans first and it shows! He was here again meeting with Sitkans yesterday, his third visit to Sitka. Bill Hill is an independent candidate endorsed by the Alaska Democratic Party, Alaska AFL-CIO, the National Education Association, the Alaska Firefighters among many others. Bill was born in Kokhanok and is a lifelong Alaskan, commercial fisherman, former construction worker, and a 25-year educator as teacher, principal, and superintendent. The Alaska Superintendents Association named Bill Hill the state’s superintendent of the year in 2022 when he was working for the Bristol Bay Borough School District.

Bill will work to ban congressional stock trading, end special tax breaks for billionaires and large corporations, and vote against forever wars lowering costs for working families. It is important to get the word out about this – your vote is too precious to waste on someone who couldn’t even serve if elected. I voted for Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins for Governor, Rebecca Himschoot for State House, Mary Peltola for Senate and Bill Hill for U.S. House. What an opportunity they present for real and effective change in leadership for our State!
