Ann Svendsen Mann
Former Sitka resident Ann Svendsen Mann, of Edmonds, Washington, passed away at the age of 78 on August 4, 2021.
She was born December 25, 1942, in Seattle, Washington, to Roy and Constance (Hill) Svendsen.
Her family moved to Sitka, where she graduated from Sitka High School, in 1961. She was an active alumni member, still gathering with classmates every five years. Their last reunion took place just days before she passed.
Ann graduated from the Pacific Lutheran University School of Nursing and spent her early years working as a nurse in Virginia, Washington and Alaska. With her extensive background in the field, she went into medical sales followed by opening her own business: Mann Medical, a medical billing firm, located in Edmonds.
Ann was a longtime member of the First Lutheran Church of Richmond Beach and a proud member of the Ballard Sons of Norway lodge. She was the life of every party, she knew how to have fun and take care of her people, friends said. Being a nurse at heart, she was an inspiration, mentor, and friend to so many people in her life.
She was also incredibly passionate about giving back and raising money for her community: after winning her battle with breast cancer in 2014, she led “Team Ann Mann,” partnered with her dear friend Momi Bowles, and raised $20,000 for breast cancer awareness.
Ann also volunteered weekly at the local food bank, helping pass out food to those in need.
She is survived by her daughter, Kirsten Mann of Seattle; daughters-in-law Kristina Sherlock of Seattle and Linda Svendsen of Oak Harbor, Washington; and grandchildren Synnove Svendsen of Bellingham, and Davian Sherlock of Seattle.
Ann was preceded in death by her son, Jason Svendsen, of Edmonds, on February 11, 2018.

The Youth Totem Pole Project blessing of the log ceremony will be held at Sitka National Historical Park visitor center. Pacific High youths and carver Tommy Joseph will be introduced and the story and design of the totem pole project will be presented.

Sitka Volunteer Fire Department reports ice on Swan Lake is 7-9 inches deep and safe for skating. However, officials warn skaters to avoid the end of the lake near Lakeside Grocery, since the ice is thinner there.
