ANS, ANB Pick Officers at 109th Grand Camp

At the Alaska Native Brotherhood and Alaska Native Sisterhood 109th Grand Camp Convention, Marcelo Quinto of Juneau was elected ANB president and Daphyne Albee of Seattle was elected ANS president.

The convention, held in Juneau in October, was a hybrid event, with participation in-person as well as on-line.

“We’re  looking forward to a year of progress with these great  officers working together.  We are from different towns and different generations with a common dedication to civil rights,” Albee said.

“The issues that the previous generations fought for are important today,” Quinto said. “We’ll be visiting classrooms to inform younger people and help them get involved with our non-partisan organization working to support voting rights and equality in schools.”

Other officers elected are:

Woodrow Watson, Saxman, ANB Grand First Vice President;

Heather Powell, Hoonah, ANS Grand First Vice President; Paul Johnson, Ketchikan, ANB Grand Second Vice President; and Cyndi Reeves, Anchorage, ANS Grand Second Vice President.

Also, Eric Morrison, Juneau, ANB Grand Treasurer; Elias Chase, Portland, ANS Grand Treasurer; Tamzyn Alzyout, Portland, ANB Grand Secretary; Carol Duis, Haines, ANS Grand Secretary; Chad Titell, Sitka, ANB Grand Sergeant at Arms; and Mary Moreno-Soots, Anchorage, ANS Grand Sergeant at Arms.

Thanks to the generosity and expertise of the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska broadband department, Tidal Network; Christopher Cropley, director of Tidal Network; and Luke Johnson, Tidal Network technician, SitkaSentinel.com is again being updated. Tidal Network has been working tirelessly to install Starlink satellite equipment for critical institutions, including the Sentinel, following the scheduled maintenance of GCI’s fiberoptic cable starting March, 13th. CCTHITA’s public-spirited response to the outage is inspiring.
