A 65-year-old bicycle rider was injured late Monday morning when he was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Edgecumbe Drive and Kashevaroff Street. He was taken to the hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The driver, Alexis Espinoza-Frias, 34, of Sitka, was cited for failing to yield after stopping at a stop sign, and for operating a vehicle without insurance. Police said he was on his way to Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary School, had stopped on Kashevarof Street, and when he pulled onto Edgecumbe Drive failed to see the bike rider, headed north. The rider was not wearing a helmet at the time, police said.
