BMS Math Panel
To Meet Tuesday
Blatchley Middle School will hold a math committee meeting 4-7 p.m. Jan. 14 in the Blatchley Middle School library to discuss and review math material and alignment to the common core.
The public is being encouraged to attend.
Blatchley Pool Open
Blatchley pool has reopened.
The regular schedule is: 12:15-1:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11:30-12:30 p.m. Fridays; 7-8:30 p.m. open to all; 8:30-10 p.m. high school and older; and 3:30-5 p.m. Sundays open to all.
The Jan. 21-only mid-day swim will be 12:30-1:30 p.m.
Swimmers can call 747-5677 for an updated message.
Tribal Council Meets
The Sitka Tribe of Alaska Tribal Council will meet 6:30 p.m. Jan. 15 in the Sheet’ka Kwáan Naa Kahídi, 200 Katlian Street.
Items on the agenda includes Long Range Transportation Plan.
ANS to Meet
The Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 4 will meet 6:30 p.m. Jan. 14 at the ANB Founders Hall for Roberts Rules of Order training. All are welcome. Those with questions may call Jean at 623-7355.
Youth Recognition
Nominations Sought
Nominations of Sitka youths are being accepted for the annual Blatchley Middle School/AmeriCorps Martin Luther King Jr. Day event Jan. 20.
All are invited to send names of youths from their organizations/schools who have been leaders in volunteerism and good citizenship.
Students names and information are – needed by Jan. 15 so parents can be invited – to Faith Lee, Sitka AmeriCorps coordinator,

Game Night Set
Friends and families are invited to a game night 5-7 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Unitarian Fellowship Hall, 408 Marine St.
A variety of board and card games will be on hand to try. People are welcome to take their own games and food to share.

Photo caption: Mary Lou Colliver presents Sitka Fire Dept. Acting Chief Dave Swearingen a check for $325 to help restore the 1926 Chevrolet fire truck originally purchased by Art Franklin. Colliver donated the money after her business, Colliver Shoes, borrowed the truck to use during Moonlight Madness. The truck is in need of an estimated $20,000 worth of restoration work, Swearingen said.

Sitka Community Hospital Administrator Martin Tirador and hospital board chairman Lawrence Porter told the Assembly Tuesday about the need for a new hospital to replace the existing 18-year-old one. The cost would be about $6.89 million with $2.2 million of that required locally.
