During the work, power was out as announced beyond the 3600 block of HPR and the 1500 block of Sawmill Creek from midnight to 5:20 a.m. today, the electric department said.
Unplanned outages occurred throughout Sitka from 12:14 to 12:59 a.m., and from 1:55 to 2:11 a.m. after electric loads greater than the distribution equipment capacity at Jarvis Street tripped off the system, officials said.
No additional planned electric outages are needed at this time. “We regret any inconvenience this morning’s outage may have caused,” the department said.

Thanks to the generosity and expertise of the the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska broadband department, Tidal Network ; Christopher Cropley, director of Tidal Network; and Luke Johnson, Tidal Network technician, SitkaSentinel.com is again being updated. Tidal Network has been working tirelessly to install Starlink satellite equipment for city and other critical institutions, including the Sentinel, following the sudden breakage of GCI's fiberoptic cable on August 29, which left most of Sitka without internet or phone connections. CCTHITA's public-spirited response to the emergency is inspiring.
