‘Spiritual Health’
    Program May 21
    In recognition of mental health awareness month, United Methodist Church will hold a ‘‘Connect: Spiritual Healing and Mental Health’’ program 5:30-7 p.m. May 21 in the church fellowship hall.
    Contemporary Christian songs, fellowship over a potluck dinner, safe conversations, and a prayer candle are planned.
    All are invited to ‘‘come as you are,’’ the church said. Call  747-8775 for more information.

    Open Mic Set
    Sitka Folk and the Greater Sitka Arts Council will host a benefit Open Mic at the Larkspur Cafe 7 p.m. Sunday, May 25. Sign up starts at 6:30 p.m.

    Food Safety
    Talk Tonight
    A presentation on “Food Safety for Events and Entertaining,” by Kate Idzorek, is planned 5:30 p.m. May 19 at Kettleson Library.
    Attendees will learn how to prepare and serve food that will be safe for entertaining guests.
    The talk is sponsored by the University of Alaska Cooperative Extension Service via the OWL videoconference network at Kettleson Memorial Library.

    Senior Hiking Set
    Southeast Alaska Independent Living’s Senior Hiking Club will meet  9:15 a.m. May 22 at Swan Lake Senior Center. Hikers will return by 11:30 a.m.
    The group will hike to the Starrigavan Valley trail. The cost is $5 and includes transportation, snacks, water and trekking poles. Call SAIL at 747-6859 with questions or interest.

    Water Reminder   
    Residents from the Channel Club to Old Harbor Mountain Road who had their water shut off today due to road construction on Halibut Point Road are reminded to boil any potable water for 24 hours after water is restored.
    The city said when the water gets turned on it could be cloudy and residents should run the cold water to flush the lines.
    ‘‘There could also be pockets of air in the lines that could make noise when the water returns. It is normal and the air will flush out when the cold water is turned on,’’ the city said.

    Regal Cheese
    On Stage May 25
    Regal Cheese, a duo featuring Laura Turcott and Nathaniel Bean, will perform at The Loft at 7 p.m. May 25.
    Tickets are $10 and are available at Old Harbor Books. Only 40 tickets will be sold because of space restrictions. The concert is sponsored by Sitka Folk and the Greater Sitka Arts Council.

    Emblem Club
    Meets May 22
    The Sitka Emblem Club will be hold its social meeting 7 p.m. May 22 at the Elks Lodge. All members are being asked to call a member who hasn’t attended meetings recently.
