    Trails Closed in
    Starrigavan Area
Part of the Starrigavan off-highway vehicle trail system has closed to all forms of traffic or modes of transportation, excluding foot traffic, the Sitka Ranger District said.
The closure is for public safety and to prevent additional damage of trails and other resources impacted by a September 2014 landslide, the district said.
The slide area was approximately 75-100 acres. About 1,500 feet of trail was eroded or buried.
The slide affected North Fork Starrigavan Creek fish habitat, coho rearing ponds, two fish passage culverts, one log stringer bridge, and blocked access to about 0.75 miles of trail. For more information, contact the USFS Sitka Ranger District Office at 747-6671.

Thanks to the generosity and expertise of the the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska broadband department, Tidal Network ; Christopher Cropley, director of Tidal Network; and Luke Johnson, Tidal Network technician, SitkaSentinel.com is again being updated. Tidal Network has been working tirelessly to install Starlink satellite equipment for city and other critical institutions, including the Sentinel, following the sudden breakage of GCI's fiberoptic cable on August 29, which left most of Sitka without internet or phone connections. CCTHITA's public-spirited response to the emergency is inspiring.
