Board to Meet
Sitka Little League board of directors meet 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Blatchley Middle School. All are welcome.
UAS hosts ACT and SAT study sessions, GED
The Student Success Center of the UAS-Sitka Campus will host study sessions to help high school students prepare for the ACT and SAT tests.
Workshops will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays, Feb. 7-March 28. Weeknight sessions will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout February and March.
The free service will help students prepare for the ACT or SAT test by taking practice tests and learning to become comfortable with timed test-taking situations. They will also gain help from UAS tutors: they will be able to bone up on their math, vocabulary, and writing skills. Services who provide these kinds of tutorials often charge $300 or more for the training; it is free for attendees of these UAS workshops.
For adult learners, UAS Student Success Center tutors will be holding GED test preparation study sessions 6-7 p.m. Wednesdays. UAS Academic Coach Joe Dubie will also conduct GED study sessions at the Sitka Job Center, 304 Lake Street, 8-10 a.m. Wednesdays and 2-4 p.m. Fridays.
GED students will study for each of the four GED tests: reasoning through language arts, social studies, math and science.

Thanks to the generosity and expertise of the the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska broadband department, Tidal Network ; Christopher Cropley, director of Tidal Network; and Luke Johnson, Tidal Network technician, SitkaSentinel.com is again being updated. Tidal Network has been working tirelessly to install Starlink satellite equipment for city and other critical institutions, including the Sentinel, following the sudden breakage of GCI's fiberoptic cable on August 29, which left most of Sitka without internet or phone connections. CCTHITA's public-spirited response to the emergency is inspiring.
