Account Set Up for

House Fire Victims

A house fire Saturday night at 2026D Halibut Point Road destroyed the trailer and belongings of residents Terri Wenger and Rick Anderson, owners of the Junk Trunk.

A savings account has been set up at ALPS Federal Credit Union, under Terri Wenger, to help with their loss.

 

 

Race Bibs Ready

Friday for Race

Runners competing in Saturday’s Sitka Cross Trail Classic Marathon and a Half can pick up their race bibs at the Sitka Fire Department on Friday.

Bibs, T-shirts and race instructions will be available for pickup from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

 

Toddler Hiking

Group at Park

The Toddler Hiking Group has returned to the Sitka National Historical Park.

Ranger Becky will lead a walk along the park’s trails 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11. The group will go on an alphabet and number hunt, singing songs and getting exercise along the way. Following the hike families are invited to a picnic. Participants are encouraged to take their own picnicking supplies and refreshments.

Fishing Photos On

Exhibit Saturday

At Seafood Festival

A second viewing of Jana M. Suchy’s vintage black-and-white photo exhibit is scheduled 2-5 p.m. Saturday during the Sitka Seafood Festival for those who missed the opening reception on Wednesday, which was attended by more than 500 people.

Photos of the fishing industry from 30 years ago will be on view. The exhibit of more than 300 photos celebrates Sitka’s fishing heritage circa 1980s and is companion to the new black-and-white photobook “Alaska Fishing Gold Rush of the 1980s” by the former Sitkan. Her photos and copies of her book are for sale.

The exhibit is being presented by Sitka Sound Seafoods and Seafood Producers Cooperative.

Ralph is here from the Southwest Indian Polytechnic Institute, along with his fiancee Grace Gillian; Louise is here from the University of New Mexico, and Jennifer, who’s working with IEA in Anchorage is home with her fiance Lance Ware.
