Multimedia Artist

Plans Workshop

Sitka Fellow and multimedia artist Ellie Schmidt will host an improv dance workshop, “How to Dance with Sea Lions,” 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, in Fraser Hall on the SJ Campus.

The event is by donation, and no experience is required. Participants should wear comfortable clothes and come ready to play. The Sitka Fellows program is sponsored by the Island Institute and the Sitka Fine Arts Camp.

 

Service Set for

Marie Wichman

A  funeral service in remembrance of Marie Wichman will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 611 Lincoln Street.

Mount Verstovia

Hike is Aug. 15

Sitka Trail Works will offer a free guided hike 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15. The hike will lead participants up Mount Verstovia. Meet at the Verstovia trail head at 9 a.m. The trail is rugged, steep, and while the distance is not that great, the incline is. Bring water and a snack. SAFV Board Meets

The board of Sitkans Against Family Violence will meet 4:30 p.m. Aug. 17 at the shelter. The meeting is open to the public. For directions and more information, call 747-3370.

 

Mudball Classic

Tourney Sept. 4-7

Sitka Softball Association invites all men’s, women’s and co-ed softball teams to participant in the annual Mudball Classic Tournament, Sept. 4-7.

ANB, ANS to Meet

Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 4 and Alaska Native Brotherhood Camp 1 reconvene 5:30 p.m. Aug. 17 at the ANB Founders Hall. Members and guests are invited to a welcome-back potluck. All can take a dish to share.

ANS to Meet

Sitka’s Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 4 will hold its first regular meeting 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the ANB Founders Hall.

Wrangell ANS Camp 1 will host the 100th-year celebration of the ANS at Grand Camp in October.

Agenda highlights will include the first of two nominations for delegates and alternates to attend Grand Camp to advocate for local resolutions. Second nominations and elections will be Sept. 1 at the ANS regular meeting. Other agenda items will include fall schedule items and discussion on the purchase of new kitchenware and other business.
