Life Celebration Set
For Ryan Kauffman
A celebration of life for Ryan Frederick Kauffman will be held 4 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Sitka Performing Arts Center.
Ryan was born Aug. 11, 1977, and died in Sitka Nov. 22, 2015.

Park Board Meets
The State Parks Board will meet 7:30 a.m. Dec. 8 in Room 208 at 601 Alice Loop. The meeting is open to the public.
Tree-Lighting Set
On SJ Campus
All are invited to join the Sitka Fine Arts Camp and Sitka Summer Music Festival 6 p.m. Dec. 12 for the annual tree-lighting ceremony.
The event will be held on the SJ Campus lawn in front of Odess Theater, and will feature holiday lights, live music and seasonal refreshments.
Qualified Homebuyers
Sought for Program
Sitka Community Development Corporation has announced that it is looking for qualified homebuyers for its Sitka Community Land Trust program.
Applications are available online at www.sitkaafordablehousing.org. Prospective homebuyers are being reminded AHFC HomeChoice certification will be required. This is either a free eight-hour Home Buyer Education Class or it can be a home-study course if classes are not available. No classes currently are scheduled for Sitka. For more information call 1-800-459-2921.
Homes will be built for local, limited-income households. They will be built to SCDC specifications with contractor funding or through the buyer’s construction loan. In cases where there are more than one qualified buyer, being longer on the list is an advantage. For more information about the CLT program, call 747-2860.
Holiday Brass
Concert Dec. 19
The annual Holiday Brass Concert will be held 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Sitka Performing Arts Center.
World-class brass players from all over the country perform a diverse mix of music.
Tickets are $25 general and $20 for students and seniors, and are available now at Old Harbor Books.
Harp Sing Set
The Fifth Sunday Sitka Sacred Harp Singing is set 3:30-5 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Pioneers Home Chapel. The group will be singing from the Cooper Book and the Christmas Harp. Beginners and listeners are being encouraged to attend. Call 738-2089 for more information.
Chamber Board
Elections Held
The Greater Sitka Chamber of Commerce held board elections at its Wednesday meeting.
Elected to the board are: Suzan Hess, Baranof Island Brewing Company, one-year term; Ptarmica McConnell, Shee Atika Inc., one-year term; Ashley Eisenbeisz, Russell’s, two-year term; Chris McGraw, Halibut Point Marine, two-year term; John O’Brien, ALPS Federal Credit Union, two-year term; Mandy Odenheimer, Alaska Airlines, two-year term; and new board member Travis Vaughan, Baranof Realty, two-year term.
Upcoming December luncheons are scheduled to include: Thursday, Dec. 3, ‘‘Future of Alaska’s Economy’’ with Pat Pitney, Alaska’s budget director, and State Rep. Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins on the panel; Dec. 9, Doug Osborne, ‘‘7 Health Initiatives in Sitka’’; Dec. 16, Rep. Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, pre-legislative session update.
The Holiday Lights Contest will have a special award of $1,000 for the Most Spirited Residence, sponsored by Baranof Realty.

Police Blotter: Preston Williams reported $6 worth of gas was stolen from his vehicle while it was parked at the Kiksadi. Paul Garwood said two tires on the KSA-TV van were slashed while the truck was parked at the Hobby House. George Reid, Arrowhead Trailer Court said guns, steamer trunks and decanters valued at $1,500 were stolen by burglars. A telephone was reported detached from the booth next to the post office.
