‘Spring in Alaska’

Spring is almost here, and to observe the upcoming changing of the season ‘‘Spring in Alaska’’ will be the featured film 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, and 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, during February’s Winter Film Series at Sitka National Historical Park’s visitor center.

The hourlong film highlights the rich transformation that occurs throughout Alaska in the spring. The film shows the Pacific herring spawning, bear cubs emerging from their den, the return of the humpback whales, the amazing journey of migratory birds and more.

The Winter Film Series, held monthly at the visitor center, is jointly presented by Sitka National Historical Park, Sitka Conservation Society and the Sitka Sound Science Center. Free popcorn will be provided at each screening.

Thanks to the generosity and expertise of the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska broadband department, Tidal Network; Christopher Cropley, director of Tidal Network; and Luke Johnson, Tidal Network technician, SitkaSentinel.com is again being updated. Tidal Network has been working tirelessly to install Starlink satellite equipment for critical institutions, including the Sentinel, following the scheduled maintenance of GCI’s fiberoptic cable starting March, 13th. CCTHITA’s public-spirited response to the outage is inspiring.
