Terrall Charles Dies in Juneau; Former Sitka Resident was 71

Terrall Charles
Terrall Charles, originally from Klawock, was born April 28, 1950, the son of David and Alice Charles.
On June 9, 2021, the sun had barely broken the meridian and time had stood still, for the father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and father-in law had passed peacefully in his sleep, in Juneau.
“God leaned down and whispered, ‘My son, you have lived honorably and served bravely, and given all the Love I filled your heart with. Come home, come walk with me into the woods.’”
Terrall was a proud member of the Raven/Dog Salmon Clan and a mighty Tlingit Warrior with tremendous pride in his roots. He served two tours of duty in the Vietnam war, in the U.S. Navy, and after he was honorably discharged, he went home to Sitka where he met and married Robin.
All who knew him knew he was a very smart man, and a good teacher; he held his traditions and values and his family very close to his heart. He never missed a chance to tell a story or give a hug or to tell his children he loved them. After a lot of convincing by his kids, Terry finally decided to move to Juneau and make that his new home, where he lived out the rest of his days with love and joy with his family.
Those who knew him well know he liked everything his way. “God as our witness, Terrall was a stubborn man when it came to life. In his later years, his health began to fail him but true to himself he held to life stubbornly, unwilling to yield and give it up,” his family said.
“Today Terrall rests peacefully in our hearts, and on our minds, and (is) with God looking down from the heavens proudly watching all of his friends and family celebrate his life and to send him off on his eternal walk with God into the woods.”
He is survived by his sister Theodora Witham; and his four children, Priscilla Barr, Terrall Charles, Jonathon Charles, and Elias Tackabery.
He also is survived by his grandchildren Velonna, Jade, Douglas, and Eziekel; nephews George Charles and Daniel Charles Jr.; niece Betty Renea Charles; and many other family members and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 19, at St. Brendan’s Episcopal Church in Juneau.

Police Blotter: Preston Williams reported $6 worth of gas was stolen from his vehicle while it was parked at the Kiksadi. Paul Garwood said two tires on the KSA-TV van were slashed while the truck was parked at the Hobby House. George Reid, Arrowhead Trailer Court said guns, steamer trunks and decanters valued at $1,500 were stolen by burglars. A telephone was reported detached from the booth next to the post office.
