Bob Nouwens Dies in Oregon; Former Sitka Resident was 87

Bob Nouwens

Former Sitka resident Bob Nouwens passed away on August 31, 2021, in Bandon, Oregon, at the age of 87.

Bob was born March 28, 1934, in Bogor, Indonesia. After World War II, the family returned to The Netherlands. In 1959, Bob moved to Portland, Oregon, and in 1967 came to Sitka, where he was a shift electrician at Alaska Lumber and Pulp Co.

He also was active in the Sitka Volunteer Fire Department.

Life took on more color and purpose after he married his second wife, Esther, in 1982. A glorious love was the main ingredient of their marriage, which lasted for some 34 years.

After Esther passed away in October 2016, Bob’s life took a turn and became more colorless and without personal joy.

His home was in Port Orford, Oregon, at the time of his death.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Karen (Nouwens) Marquis of Anchorage, and a number of grandchildren and a few great-grandchildren.

Donations in Bob’s name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (support.woundedwarriorproject.org)  and the Guide Dogs for the Blind (guidedogs.com).
