Former Sitka Resident Marla Kitka Dies at 58

Marla Elaine Kitka
Marla Elaine Kitka, a former Sitka resident, passed away February 15 in Tomah, Wisconsin. She was 58.
Marla was born in Sitka on September 12, 1963, to Harold Kitka and Anne Johnson. She was Dakl’aweidi from Kéet Gooshi Hit in Klukwan.
Marla was an avid Seahawks fan. She often helped with fundraising and cooking lunches at the American Legion in Sitka, and was an original Gajaa Héen dancer. She enjoyed fishing and taking hikes and walks. But most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her Mom, Anne Johnson, Sitka; her six children, Charity (Luke Davis) Marshall, Camp Douglas, Wisconsin, Travis (Rebecca) Marshall, Sparta, Wisconsin, Jessica (Jon Westpfahl) Marshall, Tomah, Jamie (Jon) Huggins, San Diego, California, Jared (Lauren Patterson) Marshall, Pensacola, Florida, and Charlie (Ashley) Marshall, La Crosse, Wisconsin; her brother, Ray Kitka, Sitka; sisters, Janice (Dave) Meabon, and Barbara Kitka, both of Sitka; and many grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.
Marla was preceded in death by her Dad, Harold Kitka, and sister, Alice Kitka Harlow.
A celebration of Marla’s life is being planned in Sitka. A private cultural ceremony followed by a reception for Marla’s friends and family will be at the American Legion on March 12.
Pallbearers will be Dave Meabon, Luke Davis, Jon Westpfahl, Jon Huggins, Sonny and Mark Davis, and Justin Kitka.
Honorary Pallbearers are Herman Davis, Johnny Duncan Jr., Rachel Bourdukofsky, Robert Davis, Henry Burton, Fred Dugdale, and Pete Hernandez.

Sitka will observe Veterans Day with a parade, a luncheon and a banquet. All are invited to help carry the large garrison flag, on loan from the Elks Lodge, said Bill Aragon, of the parade sponsor American Legion Post 13. After the parade veterans are invited to a noon luncheon at the ANB Hall. The Veterans Day banquet, sponsored by Tlingit-Haida of Sitka, will be at Centennial Hall.
