William E. Moy Sr. Dies; Former Resident was 48

William Eric Moy Sr.

William Eric Moy Sr., a member of a longtime Sitka family, passed away unexpectedly Feb. 24 in Juneau. He was 48.

Will was born July 19, 1973, in Haines, the son of Gary Moy Sr. and Wilma Hill of Sitka. He was a beloved son, father, brother, uncle, nephew and Papa.

He attended Sitka schools and was a skilled auto mechanic for more than 20 years. In about 2000 he moved to Anchorage, returning to Sitka after a couple of years. He moved to Juneau about 15 years ago, but made frequent visits to Sitka.

Will enjoyed spending time with his five children and seven grandchildren, and following NASCAR.

His favorite places were out on the water or in the mountains. He loved the outdoors, particularly hunting, fishing, hiking and camping with family, and going for long scenic drives in his truck, and he spent many of his summers on a fishing boat, even fishing in the Bering Sea.

He had many friends in Juneau, Anchorage and Sitka, all three places where he had lived.

Will was blessed with a large family, with many close aunts, uncles and cousins, and he loved visiting with each of them. Despite Will’s difficult past, he was a strong and resilient Man of God. He was an advocate in recovery, attended meetings and shared his stories often. Will walked through life with a purpose and he lived it to the fullest. He was an inspiration to many. His legacy remains in the hearts of his loved ones.

Will was an amazing, supportive Dad and loving and playful Papa. He had special bonds with each of his grandchildren. He had a one-of-a-kind heart and will be missed deeply.

Will is survived and mourned by his wife Tonya Moy, and children Ashley Guthrie, Eric Moy, Billy Moy, Reyonna Moy and Riley Moy, all of Juneau; father Gary Moy Sr. of Anchorage; brothers Gary Moy Jr. and Brian Moy; sister Jamie Moy; stepfather Keith Leonard; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma Hill-Leonard; grandparents Walter and Virginia Moy; grandparents William and Evelyn Hill; and aunts Nancy Didrickson, Leona Skultka and Anna Edenshaw.

A scattering ceremony for Will is to be held in Sitka this summer.
