Jacqueline Ann Petraborg
Jacqueline Ann Petraborg, nee Goodwin, passed away June 17, 2022, in Sitka, with family at her side.
She was born March 25, 1930, and raised in Saginaw, Michigan. Jackie attended nursing school in Lansing, Michigan, and came to Sitka in 1951 to work at Mt. Edgecumbe hospital on a one-year contract with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. From Seattle, she flew up in a PBY military plane that was held together with baling wire, and lived on Alice Island in housing for hospital employees.
During this chapter in her life, Jackie married and raised five children. She provided daycare in the community and later worked at the Sitka Pioneers Home.
After state retirement, Jackie worked at the Sitka Hotel as a desk clerk. She enjoyed daily walks in Totem Park with her beloved corgi, Corki. She was a devout Jehovah’s Witness and was well known for her service in the community, her love and generosity to others, her hand-knitted socks, gloves, hats, scarfs, sweaters and other knitted and crocheted items she generously shared with everyone she met. Jackie never left Sitka saying “she found the end of the road.”
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Bernice Goodwin, and her brother Gary Goodwin. She is survived by her brother, Robert (Louella) Goodwin Jr., nephews Michael Goodwin, and Thomas (Barbara) Goodwin of Michigan, and children, Dorinda Ray (Juneau), Gus Petraborg (Rocklin, California), John (Katherine Gregoratos) Petraborg (Sitka), Kathy Petraborg-Ensor (Juneau), Mark (Carol) Petraborg (Hawaii); grandchildren James Ray, Lisa Ray, Kathryn (Ken) DesRosiers, Tyler (Mary Jacobs) Petraborg, Shaundy (Charles) Perry; and great-granddaughter Emily Petraborg.
Services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at The Kingdom Hall located at 517 Monastery Street. A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Tidal Network has been working tirelessly to install Starlink satellite equipment for critical institutions, including the Sentinel, following the scheduled maintenance of GCI’s fiberoptic cable starting March, 13th. CCTHITA’s public-spirited response to the outage is inspiring.

A catered dinner will be held after “Trial by Jury,” the concert presented by the Sitka Concert Association as a benefit for the Boy Scouts of America. Tickets are $5 each and reservations must be made by Monday.
